Angels (Part IV)

Today we complete our last devotional segment on angels. We see God’s infinite power and
righteousness in both series. We know His grace and mercy are extended to those who humble
themselves and reverently fear Him. His judgment is extended to those who are hardened in defiance
against Him. God’s angels have roles of sifting, sorting and delivering God’s judgment in the last days.
Jesus told a parable in Matthew 13 about the weeds in the field: “He answered, He Who sows the good
seed is the Son of Man. The field is the world, and the good seed means the children of the kingdom;
the darnel is the children of the evil one, and the enemy who sowed it is the devil. The harvest is the
close and consummation of the age, and the reapers are the angels. Just as the darnel (the weeds, the
wild wheat) is gathered and burned with fire, so it will be at the close of the age. The Son of Man will
send forth His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all causes of offense (persons by whom
others are drawn into error or sin) and all who do iniquity and act wickedly…So it will be at the close and
consummation of the age. The angels will go forth and separate the wicked from the righteous (those
who are upright and in right standing with God) and cast them (the wicked) into the furnace of fire;
there will be weeping and wailing and grinding of teeth.”
There are other powerful angels who have specific forms and roles of for end time events.
In Hebrews 1:7, the writer states, “Referring to the angels He says, (God) Who makes His angels winds and His ministering servants flames of fire; (also Psalm 104:4). We see these angels at work in the book of
Revelation 7:1-3: “After this I saw four angels stationed at the four corners of the earth, firmly holding
back the four winds of the earth so that no wind should blow on the earth or sea or upon any tree. Then
I saw a second angel coming up from the east (the rising of the sun) and carrying the seal of the living
God. And with a loud voice he called out to the four angels who had been given authority and power to
injure earth and sea, saying, harm neither the earth nor the sea nor the trees, until we have sealed the
bond servants of our God upon their foreheads.”
The angels deliver God’s wrath to those opposing God in Revelation 15:1: “Then I saw another wonder
(sign, token, symbol) in heaven, great and marvelous (warning of events of ominous significance): There
were seven angels bringing seven plagues (afflictions, calamities), which are the last, for with them
God’s wrath (indignation) is completely expressed (reaches its climax and is ended.)”
Praise God, He makes all things right. He rewards and protects those who diligently seek Him and He
punishes those who prefer evil. He is sovereign.
